Ways to Encourage Picky Eaters

Every mama dreads the picky eating stage or feeding your always picky eater each meal. It can be so exhausting trying to get your little one to eat a variety and try new things. With quite a few tactics under my belt, I have discovered 3 easy ways to encourage picky eaters to at least try and explore new foods. With the help of Oroweat Organic White made with Whole Wheat Bread, here are my secret weapons we utilize to try and break the cycle.

Meal Prep Fun

When you are ready to get started on a meal, get your picky eater excited about it. I love to incorporate items that have their favorite characters involved to get the ball rolling. For example, who can help mommy find the fun cookie cutters? What about the bread?

Fun fact, we love Oroweat Organic White Bread made with Whole Wheat in our house. With organic whole grains and providing a good source of Vitamins A, D, & E, AND being sustainably baked using renewable wind energy, it’s a win-win. We love knowing that it is USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified and as a member of 1% for the Planet, Oroweat donates 1% of the bread’s revenue to support environmental causes.

And did I mention it is totally kid-approved with Disney’s Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse right on the front of the packaging for your picky eater to catch a glimpse of? See how I worked in a favorite character right there?

Offer Lots of Options

I found that offering a lot of options is key to encouraging our picky eaters to try something new. I typically aim to have 1 or 2 items they are familiar with and loads of other options for them to choose from. This way I can prompt more questions like, what can we use to make a face on our sandwich? Such simple questions are the perfect way to get your picky eater to weigh the options in front of them and choose something they may not have on their own.

Put it All Together

Now that you have all the items you need to get your picky eater involved, be sure to make it fun! Max is a big fan of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches so to switch it up, I asked how we were going to make a face with jelly? This quickly made him choose bananas and blueberries to make a face. Also, yes, that is how picky he is!

I let him carefully place each item onto the sandwich and cut up the bananas all on his own which he was so proud of! After getting everything exactly how he wanted it, we added our second slice of Oroweat Organic Bread for kids and Daddy helped him use a Disney Mickey Mouse cutter to cut his sandwich into a fun shape.

Though Max devoured the sandwich we made here in these photos, we have totally made it a nightly chore to make his lunch for school the next day and seal it in a reusable bag.
